William Fleeson is a writer and citizen journalist based in his native, beloved Washington, DC.
His work has appeared in BBC Travel, National Geographic, The New York Times, Newsweek, and elsewhere. One of his pieces was nominated for the Best American Essays anthology. He was a finalist for the New Millennium Writing Award in 2020 and again in 2021, and a finalist in Narrative’s Winter 2022-2023 Story Contest.
In 2023, WORLD magazine published a conversation on his six months of reporting from Ukraine.
In 2024, his work was longlisted for the DISQUIET Prize, out of more than 1,200 entries.
He also runs the Substack called Travel for Real: Places, Books, Strong Feelings.
